Introduction
This portal is intended to provide access to information about existing versions of ASC X12N Implementation Guides named as HIPAA standards. This access is in the form of search and retrieval of previous HIPAA Implementation Guide Interpretation Requests (HIRs) and their associated responses as well as the ability to submit new official HIRs. It is not a mechanism for requesting changes to the current or future implementation guides or Type 3 Technical Reports (TR3s). Those requests should be submitted through http://hipaa-dsmo.org or directly to the responsible ASC X12N Task Group 2 Work Groups. Requests concerning interpretations of the HIPAA regulations as issued by the Department of Health and Human Services should be submitted via email to askhipaa@cms.hhs.gov.

Individuals submitting HIRs are required to have researched the issue within the documentation prior to making the request and provide all relevant information. Incomplete HIRs will be returned to the submitter for additional information. In addition, the submitter must be prepared to respond to clarifying questions during the review and response process.
